Bellingham Fun & Fitness Friends Meetup
Workout walk & chat around Lake Padden. Not the standard lake trail, but the trails OFF the beaten path and around it including the expert bike trails in the back. Dogs welcome on this walk. Bring your stopwatch & heart rate monitor if you have one. I'll include a record on this site of the distance/time we walked if you'd like to add it to a workout log or somesuch. It's a muddy romp, so be prepared for slog. My name is Jean and I'll have a boxer on the end of the leash. I plan on leaving the south end parking lot (dog park end) 5 minutes after the scheduled time above and will be walking counterclockwise around the lake. Congratulations to joining the group -- I hope to see you there! Jean

Two for the Road - Running Race in Bellingham
Check out their website, but this is one that I plan to do. It would be fun to have someone to chat with at the beginning and end of the race. Of course, if I can find someone who runs the same pace - we can actually run together as the name of the race implies. http://www.gbrc.net/two_for_the_road.php GBRC Two for the Road Run A 5K Run or Walk with a Partner Saturday February 13, 2010 10:00 am $5.00 fee and you should register for the race on their website beforehand. Race Information: (Taken directly from their website) Two for the Road is a fun, fairly non-competitive 5K in Whatcom Falls Park, beginning near the fish hatchery. It first heads around the fishing derby pond toward Electric Avenue and then back toward the start. It then follows the trail over the stone bridge and out to the overlook and back. Almost all of the run is on trails and it is relatively flat. Folks may run individually, but since the run is "two for the road" two runners (or walkers) run together, holding on the piece of yarn. There are prizes for various categories, such as two males, two females, guy and gal, parent/child, etc. There will be refreshments, including hot drinks after the run. Location: Whatcom Falls Park. (see directions below) Registration Day of the race only, 9:00-9:45am. Race starts at 10:00 am. Entry fee: GBRC members - free All Others - $5.00 ($6.00 Cdn)

Jogging the Interurban...(2nd leg)
This section of Jogging the Interurban is approximately 4 miles long and flat (round trip). It is an out and back. Dog's welcome on leash, as we cross several roads and this trail is very popular. The idea is that we'll go up the trail from the parking lot, cross California street and begin jogging on a on/off every 5 - 10 minutes until we reach the steep hill at ....street, then stretch and turn back around and repeat it on the way home. Feel free to use this Meetup as a starting point if you are more advanced and would just like to say Hi to a group before heading out. Or just come out and walk, even if you don't plan on running at all. Bring your friends that don't even have a computer so you can both chat and enjoy the evening out on the trail. The whole point of this group is to see the area, meet new people (or visit with those who you already know) and challenge our bodies. Any way you can get out there is better than staying at home WISHING you went. See you on the trail ~ Jean ++++++++++++++++++++ Several of us have running goals that are relatively similar: to run in an event this summer. My goal is the San Juan half marathon in June, for others its to run continuously for a set amount without resorting to walking, and yet another wants to finish a 50K...either way, we all want to achieve some level of fitness that will push us to a higher level. The darkness sets in early this time of year, so knowing other people on the trail is paramount to safety. Even if we can't all run together at a similar pace, perhaps the idea that others are "out there" on the trail with us will give us the accountability that we need to get moving closer to our final goal. Nike said it best, Let's Do It! If running is something you want to do, whether or not you have raced before or are completely new to scene, let me know the times you have available to commit to a regular schedule and let's make it so. Email me with your times/days that would work out best for you and some idea of where you are. (An example could say something like this: Mon & Weds after 5pm, or Tues & Thurs mornings before 8am. I can jog halfway around Padden before having to walk a bit, but then I can finish up after a 1/4 mile recovery walk at a quick pace. I want to be able to run two full laps around the lake without stopping, at a 9-11 minute mile pace, by July). We have people who would like to run Saturday mornings. Would someone like to organize a group to do this??? Please let me know, and let's make it happen!
